The Fool and The Hermit

GOLD, GLASS and PAINT creating unique pieces of ART

I wanted to call this series The Fool and The Hermit reflecting the concept of this creative journey. The enforced isolation of the hermit with the innocence and daring adventure of the fool. These pieces represent my latest creative endeavour but also recall my childhood days spent in isolation looking for meaning in the mystical and esoteric. A search for meaning, for a new beginning and new adventure.”

“Originally conceived as an exercise in pure technique and an investigation of materials these ten pieces in total represent cards from the Rider Waite tarot card pack illustrated by Pamela Coleman in 1909. Widely considered the archetypal tarot pack these images have been recreated and interpreted by artists for many years.

As a signwriter and lettering artist for over 25 years I have learnt to use all manner of paint, pen and brush. In 2017 I began using gilding techniques as well as traditional signwriting paints on fascia boards, various signs and the reverse of glass. Water gilding and surface gilding has been used by sign makers and artists for years to create eye-catching pieces.”
